Jiban Baral, President and Executive Director of Alternatives has been awarded by the Clinton Global Initiative University Outstanding Commitment Award-2009 for his contributions to the sector of poverty alleviation in rural areas on Nepal.
Former US President Bil Clinton launched the Clinton Global Initiative University (CGI U) in 2005 to engage the next generation of leaders on college campuses around the world. Baral is the first Nepali to bag the award, which comes with US$2,000. He was selected from about 800 youths in 60 countries. The foundation awards youths from across the world working in the sectors of poverty eradication, education, health, human rights, peace, and climate change. He is one of the 13 youths to bag the award on poverty alleviation category.
Alternatives organized one day "School Leadership Training" in Pragati English Boarding School, Batulechaur, Pokhara on 10th August, 2009. The program was organized to empower the students to take leadership role in their circle, school, and community.
Alternatives and Partnership Development Centre, Kaski jointly organized a One Day Women Group Entrepreneurship Development Training at Maharudra high School in Taprang village. The main aim of this training is to create awareness about the importance of group enterprise, micro credit program as well as leadership dynamics in rural areas. After innaugrating training, Nanda Raj Gurung, Headmaster of Maharudra School thanked Alternatives to bring this kind of programs in their village. He recalled villagers from Taprang never had training like this before.
